Repeat offender: Vogue 8742

I needed a dose of colour to chase off the winter blues and a project that would free up some room in the cupboard.  Enter Vogue 8742 and a ponte in a colour that falls somewhere between grape and fuchsia.

Having made this before here and here I don't have a lot to add.

I did my first ever sway back adjustment following this tutorial and I chopped an inch off the neckline. Looking at these photos I think I'll probably go back and chop a couple of inches off the length (if it doesn't shrink in the wash!).  I bought this fabric about 18 months ago at Spotlight.  I was so excited to see some bright colours that I bought three lots but unfortunately I'm regretting that decision now.  The ponte pills really quickly and it doesn't play nicely with a twin needle.  I tried ball point, jersey, universal and sharp, I adjusted the stitch length, tension and changed the thread but nothing worked.  It kept skipping stitches and stripping the thread.  I've never had this happen on any other fabric so I can only assume that something in this ponte really disagrees with my machine.

It's a fun dress and if it only lasts for one winter, I'm OK with that.

What a shame the ponte isn't good quality because the dress looks really fabulous and probably my favourite iteration of this dress that I've seen. It's so hard to get nice ponte here - print or plain or nice, bright colours.

I'd call this dress an encore, actually, not a repeat offender! It's a great style, and such a terrific colour, but how annoying that the fabric pills so quickly. I bought a whole lot of red ponti at lincraft a few years ago, and it too has been a pilling fiend - I still wear the dress though!

This dress looks great on you! The color is fabulous and at least in the photos, the fabric looks nice. I'd love to find a nice fuchsia ponte knit. I, too have had a couple of bad experiences with it- I have a Burda sheath dress in heather grey ponte that pilled pretty badly. I really need to get a better fabric and make it again.

Love the colour on you. Such a lovely dress, it is a shame about the fabric quality.

Love the colour and style. I'm curious how you found the sway back adjustment? I have started using it and it works well for my short back, so I'm really interested to learn how it affects the fit on other people.

I bought some beautiful dark navy ponti from Spotlight and made a dance skirt out of it. One wash and it was pilling :-( I'm wearing it anyway but I'm definitely not rushing back for more.

Gorgeous dress, love the pop of colour and so sorry that the fabric is such a pain to sew.

Repeat offender for the win! It looks wonderful, even if the fabric was a nightmare to play with. Here's hoping the pilling stays away for as long as possible!
