A winter winner - Vogue 8742

Wow - over a month with no post.  I've only managed the smallest bits of sewing in the last month, life has been so busy and overwhelming that blogging just had to be put aside.

I had my three babies while I was studying for my university degree and since I graduated I've worked part time hours.  Earlier this year I was seconded into a new role (which I love) and I have just been permanently appointed to the position - full time!  To celebrate this significant milestone I treated myself to some lovely new fabric from Tessuti.

One of those pieces of fabric was a fantastic blue ponte that I've used to make Vogue 8742.  I've made this dress before, without the gathers, and I'm not sure which one I like best.

This fabric molds to your body more than the fabric I used last time, so I didn't adjust the back at all, although looking at the photo below maybe I should have!  All I had to do was add an extra inch to the body above the waistline and an extra inch to the sleeve length.  Simple.

This dress feels incredibly sexy, yet it's quite modest. It's also comfortable and warm.  It's a winter winner.

I've seen a few versions of this dress and all are fabulous. Great blue - works against the winter blues!

I love the gathers on that dress. I always meant to buy this pattern. COngrats on the job, but I hope that you still have time to sew!

You are an inspiration. I struggle to juggle 3 kids and half time work. I don't know how much sewing I will be able to do when I go full time later in the year.

Great. I love blue and all of the gathers.

Wow - congrats on the fulltime secondment position! I can't even begin to imagine how hard studying AND having kids would be. But buying fabric would definitely be the way I would reward myself too. I actually have some of this exact ponti - its wonderful! Although I've yet to decide what to do with it... your dress is gorgeous :)

Congratulations on your new full-time position, and a very nice way to treat yourself :) I worked full time back when my kids were tiny, ranging from 18mnths - 5 1/2yrs. I didn't get any sewing done at all, and didn't until I dropped a few days

Congratulations on your full time role - it certainly is a significant milestone. Your dress is a fantastic reward :) - really lovely on you, and hopefully fun to make too!

I only have 2 kids and I work 5 slightly shorter than full time jobs, but it IS hard to fit sewing in... I hope you can work out how to fit it in.
