I have no idea what I thought the right moment would look like, so I kept waiting. Time to just jump straight back in. <div><br /></div><div>I have a massive list of all the things I want to sew, more than I will ever have time for, and then when I do have time to sew I get distracted by all the projects. I've spent a bit of time thinking about what I need and what I'd like to make and this is where I landed:</div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEVdhsWJZOg14oGEr1KPpPrwwuk7QMxD_IOUWp8FaNhZFWAN8r02MLCJ_MBx1pox2ngO57YODEhY93oEs6QoT8c0pTblO0QNPurWTJeUsPUL4x1IWvHmdI_58cVkumgiFed3wdvdpgi-s/s660/B6031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="660" data-original-width="480" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEVdhsWJZOg14oGEr1KPpPrwwuk7QMxD_IOUWp8FaNhZFWAN8r02MLCJ_MBx1pox2ngO57YODEhY93oEs6QoT8c0pTblO0QNPurWTJeUsPUL4x1IWvHmdI_58cVkumgiFed3wdvdpgi-s/w466-h640/B6031.jpg" width="466" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Image via <a href="https://somethingdelightful.com/" target="_blank">Something Delightful</a></span></td></tr></tbody></table><div><br /></div><div>A black slip. Also, my shape had changed (or the slip shrank) as it no longer covered my bum and that's pretty important. I bought two of Gertie's kits to make these years ago so I have everything I need. There's several items in my wardrobe I can't wear without a slip so this will be enormously helpful.</div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL7nrlspDNvflrwoq0tncwNxCgeJLudGy6SF1zrjAeHr7sgY_fvFiBShEpyZ53ppye5D283dFUtG9RcRnGU2svGp3zYEUl0XEijW-QRJLmdnYASxEtgIsHzBj41Hj1fhKzoCs_0TCrSRU/s500/simplicity-jackets-coats-pattern-8056-envelope-front.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL7nrlspDNvflrwoq0tncwNxCgeJLudGy6SF1zrjAeHr7sgY_fvFiBShEpyZ53ppye5D283dFUtG9RcRnGU2svGp3zYEUl0XEijW-QRJLmdnYASxEtgIsHzBj41Hj1fhKzoCs_0TCrSRU/w640-h640/simplicity-jackets-coats-pattern-8056-envelope-front.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Image via <a href="http://Simplicity.com">Simplicity.com</a></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div>Camel trousers. This afternoon even tighter restrictions were announced for Melbourne, we will go from Stage 3 lockdown into Stage 4. It's necessary, but that doesn't make it any easier. My sewjo disappeared when we went in to lockdown 2.0 and these are really all that I've been making. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjimKNvZjWayLpj7GgS-usph_QCM3a8ilNK0i53qhTzYjqYefcJkN-7jv4_B9xyjqHsEUIycjkLA27m0-XI56wHNMOoytQzGsT_6x2X9DwHo6c00IEuvAdYFOTU00V4exe7rI_9nNgz3Dg/s2048/mask+a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjimKNvZjWayLpj7GgS-usph_QCM3a8ilNK0i53qhTzYjqYefcJkN-7jv4_B9xyjqHsEUIycjkLA27m0-XI56wHNMOoytQzGsT_6x2X9DwHo6c00IEuvAdYFOTU00V4exe7rI_9nNgz3Dg/s640/mask+a.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><div>Now if I have to wear a mask, I'm going to wear one I like and I'm pretty happy with these. I'm lucky to have had supplies on hand as elastic has become pretty hard to come by. I've made these using three layers of cotton. The colourful masks have quilting cotton on the outside and inside, with a really tightly woven 1000 thread count sheet for the inner layer. The black masks have cotton drill on the outside and then the sheet fabric and quilting cotton on the inside. I've used 5mm and 6mm elastic, as well as narrow fold over elastic for the ear loops.</div><div><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5PP0b7Bb-K2qZjZzbmz4Wdv6fJTOVQnE5HBjGnQMnTVMnYSh9GnqDF6jjpWDBfjEABHCAi9lhlu1zBNwp5-CxE35-EZdk3ImFpO_H5_oPUcKRP735-6mhmhdiOyZbc-nsov1qNBN6ZtE/s2048/mask+d.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5PP0b7Bb-K2qZjZzbmz4Wdv6fJTOVQnE5HBjGnQMnTVMnYSh9GnqDF6jjpWDBfjEABHCAi9lhlu1zBNwp5-CxE35-EZdk3ImFpO_H5_oPUcKRP735-6mhmhdiOyZbc-nsov1qNBN6ZtE/s640/mask+d.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><div>These have washed and worn really well and it's a really nicely drafted pattern. </div><div><br /></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNoiuG7ZFuk41XtxBgc2x7ZHmTywRBncF8dK4X_jEK9qZ8H9W-nz392O68bridER_Y2zuICv1m4kd9Y_uFgSEkHrJggN11BZRyF77-BrfqFDmg6JJxxgzgvZ03PDPvdV0ort29Kuu4EFI/s2048/mask+e.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNoiuG7ZFuk41XtxBgc2x7ZHmTywRBncF8dK4X_jEK9qZ8H9W-nz392O68bridER_Y2zuICv1m4kd9Y_uFgSEkHrJggN11BZRyF77-BrfqFDmg6JJxxgzgvZ03PDPvdV0ort29Kuu4EFI/s640/mask+e.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn9SkSwszBSiSxKRJS71TXiBZiB_qbldJMV6OUOWdxDEdwKQ_JEWpulkHYMFQhrVmp9Sqq1vhniQLUB9ugyxwxq9frJlVB0X-Xmfx9gUhCsVOjqadcGcLE2OglydArEsi1u_KW8gApD2o/s2048/mask+f.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn9SkSwszBSiSxKRJS71TXiBZiB_qbldJMV6OUOWdxDEdwKQ_JEWpulkHYMFQhrVmp9Sqq1vhniQLUB9ugyxwxq9frJlVB0X-Xmfx9gUhCsVOjqadcGcLE2OglydArEsi1u_KW8gApD2o/s640/mask+f.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Hopefully the additional restrictions help to control the spread of transmission and we're able to see family and friends again in 6 weeks time.</div>Robynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01545965949294513334noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842256111212276773.post-79231527235309652322020-05-18T08:00:00.000+10:002020-05-18T08:00:10.508+10:00The Blackwood cardigan - a perfect layer.When you're six foot tall and you want a long cardigan, you make it yourself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is the <a href="https://helensclosetpatterns.com/product/blackwood-cardigan-pdf-pattern/" target="_blank">Blackwood Cardigan</a> from Helen's Closet. I've made the pattern before but never blogged it, so thought I'd better get on it this time. I took advantage of the recent 30% off merino sale at The Fabric Store and purchased two beautiful premium weight fabrics in black and paprika. The fabric is so soft and cozy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
There's a reason that just about every sewing blogger/instagrammer (is that a word?) has made this pattern. It comes together so quickly and I love the way it looks. It's not designed to close in the middle so that's something to be aware of.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgthkL3nerfsD1C6aUbioEiWkK5B1JgKEZGpNpNE313uziyIh98L-lqQkyExtlEx35pG_ZSChMAI0zkT3YRA5SurMTvZZrhBWablcbEyii_DMW7Ct_OHG3E524dbOflJx_qscznoNKTKwQ/s1600/blackwood+paprika+e+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgthkL3nerfsD1C6aUbioEiWkK5B1JgKEZGpNpNE313uziyIh98L-lqQkyExtlEx35pG_ZSChMAI0zkT3YRA5SurMTvZZrhBWablcbEyii_DMW7Ct_OHG3E524dbOflJx_qscznoNKTKwQ/s640/blackwood+paprika+e+%25282%2529.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I've made this up in a large and only made one pattern adjustment and that was to increase the length through the body by 6 inches. The sleeves are designed to be extra long/bunched up a little and I found that they hit at a great length on my long arms. I've left the pockets off too. If I put anything heavier than a tissue in them, they would drag on the front of the cardigan. The added bonus is that you then pretty much sew this up on your overlocker.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Rw6KujjIYT52xgcWmMD9C4hQQweziqb0QaNnLeDQjoOhEGZ08fjMd1BcSMYwaFDCQZligoogYPHIpoLpNJmB7-8bSDm3_Vq3aQeD-4lfBb3cQfkz2y5UTvVKmKFHnet4Rfsv6YSd-VQ/s1600/blackwood+paprika+g+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3Rw6KujjIYT52xgcWmMD9C4hQQweziqb0QaNnLeDQjoOhEGZ08fjMd1BcSMYwaFDCQZligoogYPHIpoLpNJmB7-8bSDm3_Vq3aQeD-4lfBb3cQfkz2y5UTvVKmKFHnet4Rfsv6YSd-VQ/s640/blackwood+paprika+g+%25282%2529.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
These have been in constant rotation since I finished them a couple of weeks ago. I'm really surprised by how often I reach for the paprika colour, I really thought I'd wear the black more often but I'm enjoying the injection of colour that the paprika brings to my fairly neutral wardrobe.<br />

I've lost count of how many times I've made this pattern and every time they feel slightly different. The impact of fabric choice and quality is never more evident than when you make jeans.<br />

<br />
I wanted a pair of true black denim jeans and found it really difficult to find fabric. I ended up getting some from <a href="https://threadbarefabrics.com/collections/the-denim-store" target="_blank">Threadbare Fabrics</a> in the US, but it doesn't appear to be on their website anymore. It was described as a stretch denim however the stretch is minimal and there's almost no recovery, but the colour is perfect. My favourite jeans fabric is the Cone Mills S-Gene stretch denim. I haven't found anything else that comes close in terms of recovery and not bagging out.<br />
<br />

<br />
Looking back through my old posts I haven't really documented my changes to the pattern so I'm including them here for future reference.<br />
<br />
These are a size 14, view B. I've narrowed the leg from the knee down by around 1/4 inch and added an extra inch in length. I've also dropped the back crotch curve by 1/4 inch and taken a 1/4 inch from the back yoke at the middle, tapering out to nothing at the side seams. There are further adjustments I could make, but I like these and at the moment I'm not particularly concerned. Nothing in RTW even comes close to fitting me this well or feeling as comfortable. Also, when I look at the first pair I made five years ago I can see I'm carrying more weight but I haven't traced a larger size so that also accounts for some of the drag lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm working on my photo set-up, this was my first time using a self-timer and a tripod and they could really use some work. Black is hard enough to photograph let alone adding in a self timer! My family has zero interest in taking photos for me so I need to get this figured out - particularly how I get the camera to focus on me, not the background! So much to learn...<br />
<br />
I debated whether I should even post this because I kept focusing on the flaws, but I've never been aiming for perfection, just a friendly space to share my makes, so here we are. Also, it feels good to visually tick something off my April list of sewing plans.<br />

I started the month with a night out in the city moving from roof top bar to roof top bar and finished the month in isolation. Along the way I also successfully applied for a new job and handed in my resignation at an organisation that I've worked for for over 15 years. I've felt all the emotions this month!<br />
<br />
There was very little sewing in March. My black ginger jeans are 90% done - just need to sew the buttonhole and hems and bang in the button. The wrap top and the bra are not even close, but I still want them and hope to be able to get it done in April.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So for April I'm planning to make:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/products/berlin-jacket-pattern" target="_blank">Tessuti Berlin Jacket</a> in black boiled wool from <a href="https://www.theclothshop.com.au/" target="_blank">The Cloth Shop Ivanhoe</a></li>

<li><a href="https://orange-lingerie.com/products/devonshire-bra-pdf-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Orange Lingerie Devonshire Bra</a></li>
<li>Trousers/jeans - pattern/s to be determined</li>
</ul>
<br />
I finish up at work on Thursday and have two weeks off before I start in my new role so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to achieve everything on my list this month.<br />
<br />
These are all really practical items that will work well during this isolation period as well as filling current gaps in my wardrobe.Robynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01545965949294513334noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842256111212276773.post-52150846696022835052020-03-03T10:30:00.000+11:002020-03-03T10:30:53.412+11:00Making plans - MarchLately I haven't felt productive. At the end of the day I'm so tired I just want to fall on the couch and scroll Instagram - which only makes me feel worse! So I decided to put together some simple plans for March to try and get some balance back.<br />

</tbody></table>
Here's what I hope to get done:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><a href="https://orange-lingerie.com/products/devonshire-bra-pdf-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Devonshire Bra from Orange Lingerie</a></li>
<li><a href="https://peppermintmag.com/sewing-school/wrap-top/" target="_blank">Peppermint wrap top</a> in a gorgeous <a href="https://www.tessuti-shop.com/products/rhubarb-silk-satin" target="_blank">rhubarb silk satin</a> from Tessuti Fabrics</li>

</ul>
<br />
The best part is that I have all the fabrics and patterns in my stash and I've made a start by cutting out the jeans and the bra.<br />
<br />
Pretty modest plans but I'm excited to see them come together. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgywdiNObM4UF1JqgK5d7i91LqWEInrzDiVdXSFiZfQxAcsIVLLmxUqYOOZM7vesSDT1w888rtHepLxRyI5C2zdKCOamf6uEy6OJS6U97dMTCQi9BoS97PgdWwEleeK7vNHRLwWzQ161o4/s1600/Aeolian+tee+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1143" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgywdiNObM4UF1JqgK5d7i91LqWEInrzDiVdXSFiZfQxAcsIVLLmxUqYOOZM7vesSDT1w888rtHepLxRyI5C2zdKCOamf6uEy6OJS6U97dMTCQi9BoS97PgdWwEleeK7vNHRLwWzQ161o4/s640/Aeolian+tee+1.jpg" width="456" /></a></div>
<br />
The <a href="https://www.patternfantastique.com/products/aeolian-tee-shirt-dress" target="_blank">Aeolian tee</a> has been incredibly popular for a reason - it's a great pattern that sews up really quickly and looks great.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirkRQzl0ORrqggqIrgoaTn7VKNGRsyzYRAuELePe9Dyao0mRQJqU-KCNu8nid3WxTokH0lNVjmKHofx2FCmz8YTZ9Z9H3sdkC8rX4ke6ciavmchFNG5-uGKwmcE-HoNBxvuw7S_lgC2-8/s1600/Aeolian+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirkRQzl0ORrqggqIrgoaTn7VKNGRsyzYRAuELePe9Dyao0mRQJqU-KCNu8nid3WxTokH0lNVjmKHofx2FCmz8YTZ9Z9H3sdkC8rX4ke6ciavmchFNG5-uGKwmcE-HoNBxvuw7S_lgC2-8/s640/Aeolian+2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
My measurements placed me as 12-14 which falls in the medium size range. As a first go around I decided to make this up as drafted with no additional length or other changes and I really like the way it fits. I think one of my favourite features is the wide hems, I love the way they look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bcWqEVv3MyvopJBRMvTB_GooENal7jRGUoqewiuwFIV_si18hRdu7bm36NCXcXvpei18_kCoMUvbln3EPiS9RO8IPwE3W6dMeydoMBTb0VBWzrDYBAFZmZ4tPScWuiHPPiUajp9pwkE/s1600/Aeolian+tee+-+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bcWqEVv3MyvopJBRMvTB_GooENal7jRGUoqewiuwFIV_si18hRdu7bm36NCXcXvpei18_kCoMUvbln3EPiS9RO8IPwE3W6dMeydoMBTb0VBWzrDYBAFZmZ4tPScWuiHPPiUajp9pwkE/s640/Aeolian+tee+-+front.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
For this version I used a viscose jersey from Tessuti Fabrics and I really like the drape it gives the top. The only thing I would change would be to cut the neckband a little shorter, the drape of the fabric provides just a little bit too much give.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja7_4PD1OIUzarqjK1Qw6rQZymVJdPm6pDdWT95LLwf4SJTNMIA3QF7X5lsqBNpycv4xSeJzUFc9CnqWfPPXXLp83P1y0vf2-5WMh8Bnvl1Ep1oKeqGvC8DLZLtgLE_vn_SHUUEbf7YV8/s1600/Aeolian+tee+-+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja7_4PD1OIUzarqjK1Qw6rQZymVJdPm6pDdWT95LLwf4SJTNMIA3QF7X5lsqBNpycv4xSeJzUFc9CnqWfPPXXLp83P1y0vf2-5WMh8Bnvl1Ep1oKeqGvC8DLZLtgLE_vn_SHUUEbf7YV8/s640/Aeolian+tee+-+back.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
It has possibly been corrected by now but I did note that the pattern has incorrect instructions on the neck facing piece. It says to cut one on fold, but there is no fold, you just cut one piece. <br />
<br />
I've also seen some great versions of this in a woven fabric and I'd been keen to try that too. So many patterns, so little time!Robynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01545965949294513334noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842256111212276773.post-54490950356948411502020-01-13T22:18:00.000+11:002020-01-13T22:18:19.969+11:00Style Arc Sunny Knit TopOn new year's eve I cleaned up my sewing room and counted alllll the projects that I had in various stages of completion. I had 30! With another 10 projects waiting to be altered or mended. This top was one of my WIPs, it was just waiting to be hemmed.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkUXhyphenhyphenG3VxOtt8ponM4-mDYa-JkFtDIdkg2k5Ux_pPaoCB0MZxMWV4vtTWZPbLQI3zJ8roVRRdLLYSnrfXbzFbOVsZ3ra_-ToCLTEN-13Lmwf0g4DEEygGSNjbgu7BaAzpvIj5WVauOgk/s1600/sunny+knit+top+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkUXhyphenhyphenG3VxOtt8ponM4-mDYa-JkFtDIdkg2k5Ux_pPaoCB0MZxMWV4vtTWZPbLQI3zJ8roVRRdLLYSnrfXbzFbOVsZ3ra_-ToCLTEN-13Lmwf0g4DEEygGSNjbgu7BaAzpvIj5WVauOgk/s640/sunny+knit+top+3.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/sunny-top/" target="_blank">Style Arc Sunny Knit top</a> made up in a gorgeous lilac merino from The Fabric Store. Total coincidence that my first two projects of 2020 are both called Sunny! I was drawn to the style lines of this top, quick and easy but with a little bit of interest which is something that I think Style Arc do really well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-18wm2UpYezj-pmsNiGc-0Jfh4owrlUUYGD7wfskklzBxjxwKKZdjfn9B_cpL5BtYdAVw6hlyyUCq-MXdzzaAwh42SCPrgsqb2KLOsRDbBJUFYcZZ2WFDebWyWkeZF-OerZhwXIgVBYk/s1600/Sunny+knit+top+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-18wm2UpYezj-pmsNiGc-0Jfh4owrlUUYGD7wfskklzBxjxwKKZdjfn9B_cpL5BtYdAVw6hlyyUCq-MXdzzaAwh42SCPrgsqb2KLOsRDbBJUFYcZZ2WFDebWyWkeZF-OerZhwXIgVBYk/s640/Sunny+knit+top+4.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Given that I cut this out sometime last year I'm relying on what's in my notepad and on the pattern sheet and it looks like I've made up a straight size 12. No extra length added and the sleeves and body length are perfect for me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I really like the cocoon shape, I feel like it sits nicely and is easy to wear. While the style lines are different I feel like this has quite a similar feel to the Tessuti Mandy boat tee. Fitted sleeves with volume through the body. Having made both I do prefer the Style Arc Sunny top. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm really happy that I finished this one off, I'm pretty sure it's going straight into regular rotation. Now I just need to tackle the rest of the list!<br />

It's beautifully made, fully lined and includes an underwired shelf bra for extra support. It's also a complete pain to pull back up into place once it's wet. I wanted a lovely little bikini to wear in the backyard swimming pool which would make bathroom breaks a breeze. <br />
Let's start with the top. I bought this bikini top pattern as soon as it was released thinking it would work for my daughters and for me. According to my measurements I'm an XL, the largest size this pattern goes up to (I wear a RTW 12D/34D). Essentially this is a pretty quick and easy sew, but there were some things with the pattern and instructions I disliked and after swimming in the top I'd make changes in the future.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibmQmxVadPUotr6fINvVtMh9rrX3a7Jq9JmUz4NsIucRVFFOS_oB8YkVaGcCrSMHUSLI_c1sIDrluEFcgNiaV6O_0lNtuYj-k9-a3DbQP_Dn6CJsjsu_Zp4CQXxfHsgJidgW_Z3lauZSI/s1600/Sunny+bikini+top+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="957" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibmQmxVadPUotr6fINvVtMh9rrX3a7Jq9JmUz4NsIucRVFFOS_oB8YkVaGcCrSMHUSLI_c1sIDrluEFcgNiaV6O_0lNtuYj-k9-a3DbQP_Dn6CJsjsu_Zp4CQXxfHsgJidgW_Z3lauZSI/s640/Sunny+bikini+top+1.JPG" width="382" /></a></div>
<br />
My first issue was with the pattern. It says to cut 1 of the side cups, when it should say cut one pair or cut 2. A pretty basic mistake that I picked up as I was laying out the pattern pieces (this may have been fixed since I bought the pattern).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE_eJQYX5ZL9whkTsZ7xZUYlERUnnaqb94K33sm0JH7KxS5ZFZOm-KEUt0syhHOzg3pv4pY31kSviUjM42J9FNE4Fx9qUbyFVjn6YKSt7wQ_fncFq9O5Ag5wP0bEO_KD-YyxqCcpz4ZSk/s1600/sunny+bikini+top+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiE_eJQYX5ZL9whkTsZ7xZUYlERUnnaqb94K33sm0JH7KxS5ZFZOm-KEUt0syhHOzg3pv4pY31kSviUjM42J9FNE4Fx9qUbyFVjn6YKSt7wQ_fncFq9O5Ag5wP0bEO_KD-YyxqCcpz4ZSk/s640/sunny+bikini+top+3.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I found the style of the instructions a bit odd. It was almost like there was a summary statement and then the step by step instructions, which I found confusing rather than helpful.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSF8zSjs8LLYOBq1gDNaOaxCr77PbzkrYguNi8MiFC9CUCA_FS9MQdZuz-b5vyzCo5R9wRqFB9LTQlCyMuLvEIqd3YG1uLgy8v5zc0myO0S_W3HQCH2c3s7c0BUjrzFMFvOusS9kqPP0/s1600/sunny+bikini+top+4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1172" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSF8zSjs8LLYOBq1gDNaOaxCr77PbzkrYguNi8MiFC9CUCA_FS9MQdZuz-b5vyzCo5R9wRqFB9LTQlCyMuLvEIqd3YG1uLgy8v5zc0myO0S_W3HQCH2c3s7c0BUjrzFMFvOusS9kqPP0/s640/sunny+bikini+top+4.JPG" width="468" /></a></div>
<br />
Some information appears to be missing and at times the instructions don't appear to match the accompanying images. When attaching the elastic around the straps and neckline, the photos show the elastic starting down from the top edge of the straps, but this isn't referenced in the instructions at all. I started the elastic 3/8 inch down from the top edge and this worked well. <br />
<br />
I also found the images for this section confusing. The instructions state that you place the lining fabric and outer fabric together and then attach the elastic, but the lining fabric isn't shown in the accompanying photo.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmJOem5bTWzUTQvdAVUmHg_hQQNrVeAWDfNnwchbyW-aHbyP9KyADXGSGf_W6b1KS80I6tquf0fKjDvmk8wZLLYmTDRzdICS52O5IDoTyiicqpYXtPNNosaBCCYKXvznwBQJTF3KzhqCc/s1600/sunny+bikini+top+6.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmJOem5bTWzUTQvdAVUmHg_hQQNrVeAWDfNnwchbyW-aHbyP9KyADXGSGf_W6b1KS80I6tquf0fKjDvmk8wZLLYmTDRzdICS52O5IDoTyiicqpYXtPNNosaBCCYKXvznwBQJTF3KzhqCc/s640/sunny+bikini+top+6.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
The extra wide neckline is lovely, but those straps aren't comfortable for lots of swimming. I found that they tended to rub the under arms. I would also prefer that the bottom edge was finished with an elastic band rather than a self binding - it didn't feel particularly secure. Once wet, the top rode up at the back and I wonder is that's also because there's no elastic in the bottom to help it stay in place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWopBVEReW1BOqWb-PZEfxBIiWrDh4IWO_DpZBoFsAXFYwf2WSePxMNAHSs2Vob0TMzRZGS1OmCbUCOW8Xd_b-u1KfwhVOJn6yVJNlYxfA0aOYJCqyh40J1ihyFVSlZnFVsKBt0Ko36BM/s1600/sunny+bikini+top+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1093" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWopBVEReW1BOqWb-PZEfxBIiWrDh4IWO_DpZBoFsAXFYwf2WSePxMNAHSs2Vob0TMzRZGS1OmCbUCOW8Xd_b-u1KfwhVOJn6yVJNlYxfA0aOYJCqyh40J1ihyFVSlZnFVsKBt0Ko36BM/s640/sunny+bikini+top+7.JPG" width="435" /></a></div>
<br />
If I make this again I would use a self lining, as there was no way I could find to stop it peaking out when you finish the edges as instructed. I would also reshape the neckline to move the straps further towards the center front, curve the top edge of the bust in a little bit more to make the fit more secure, add 1/2 inch extra length and finish the bottom with elastic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq5KsIUBrl07um9WkrD1aXllyQi-6qyCM87tmY-BF-9NFdKjZcVetk5EJYDDn8otT8Rr2b5ZNWqg7OqVQNBFPSRgCeNBhYlY6ElvFUO0A4eq1_L4dIclEmtli47XSIKexubcxtKdDmQzc/s1600/sunny+bikini+top+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq5KsIUBrl07um9WkrD1aXllyQi-6qyCM87tmY-BF-9NFdKjZcVetk5EJYDDn8otT8Rr2b5ZNWqg7OqVQNBFPSRgCeNBhYlY6ElvFUO0A4eq1_L4dIclEmtli47XSIKexubcxtKdDmQzc/s640/sunny+bikini+top+2.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I may tinker with this pattern and make it again if my daughters want it, but I'm not sure I'd make it again for me.<br />
<br />
The bikini bottoms couldn't have been more different. I sewed these up in a medium with a couple of simple changes. I added 1/2 inch to the back rise graded out to nothing out the side seams, I removed the front crotch seam and fully lined these. Totally love them. Comfy to swim in and I love the way they look.<br />
<br />

Such a long post for such a small pieces of clothing! I love swimwear and I'm hoping to make up a few more patterns before summer is over.<br />

<br />
Through 2019 I started to focus more on my health and fitness and I've set myself some challenging goals for 2020. Which leads me to one of my favourite makes of 2019, the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/717386645/mighty-sports-bra-sewing-pattern-pdf" target="_blank">mighty sports bra</a>.<br />

<br />
I knew I wanted to make the version with the mesh overlays and I prefer a back closure as it makes it easier to get on and off. My measurements put me in a large, which is what I made. I wear a 12D/34D in RTW bras.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The fabrics all came from <a href="https://www.pitttrading.com.au/" target="_blank">Pitt Trading</a>, the closure and fold over elastic from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/EvielaLuveDIY" target="_blank">Evie La Luve</a> and the wide band elastic from <a href="https://tailor-made-shop.myshopify.com/" target="_blank">Tailor Made Shop</a>.<br />

<br />
I really enjoyed sewing this up. It came together quickly and the instructions give a nice clean finish on the inside. I self lined the top and found that, combined with the mesh overlay, there was enough support for me to feel comfortable running at a moderate pace on the treadmill. I did manage to sew the closure on backwards so it's not perfect but I've already cut out a second. If/when I make a third I will probably add a half inch extra length.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiONf8xvKIo8duuaM9w_yC0g_SMWFBZgrtonUeDMXDZm2gzePo_7oTelAQ9lTvaopbdiV3rOeF0cHPFGhosejIdfsl1gA_5fbqzYhSdtdIx5oo6WiTGUPkINujDr_STSLbjG0a0Pu60obI/s1600/Cottesloe+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiONf8xvKIo8duuaM9w_yC0g_SMWFBZgrtonUeDMXDZm2gzePo_7oTelAQ9lTvaopbdiV3rOeF0cHPFGhosejIdfsl1gA_5fbqzYhSdtdIx5oo6WiTGUPkINujDr_STSLbjG0a0Pu60obI/s640/Cottesloe+2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
A quick search of the stash unearthed this stretch velvet from Spotlight. I'd actually call it velour (like the popular track pants back in the day) but Spotlight says it's stretch velvet. Whatever you call it, I just love the colour and the feel of it. I could not get this colour to photograph well, it's a really saturated jewel toned blue. It looks very luxe.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6YLZFt_VaBEzD4y9IahOocuPH01oIJmCUfPVzb3k1Lk6jUhp6JE16gtGNaEKL4KuKBZjqVl4Z5TgN4KzgsxMrYTL3JkT98Pr0TE-ZZiGT0bhXqxs_5zTE6UuQa3_OH3R2LttVNHzTMPw/s1600/Cottesloe+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6YLZFt_VaBEzD4y9IahOocuPH01oIJmCUfPVzb3k1Lk6jUhp6JE16gtGNaEKL4KuKBZjqVl4Z5TgN4KzgsxMrYTL3JkT98Pr0TE-ZZiGT0bhXqxs_5zTE6UuQa3_OH3R2LttVNHzTMPw/s640/Cottesloe+1.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to make view C and cut a size 14 top and size 16 bottoms based on my measurements. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRGjvhrIj368qElcDgBWsiKDM3eQXs_KhNrbNn1H2x8VtK8NXil4q4XhQpV7yQebNq3j3Eck8opUzIvvAyQo4ux3B9ydy4Pa7VzeJF0r_4iovi7b3ivh2bWpanoUSwdBPWHUCdu45P2bI/s1600/Clottesloe+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1207" data-original-width="1600" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRGjvhrIj368qElcDgBWsiKDM3eQXs_KhNrbNn1H2x8VtK8NXil4q4XhQpV7yQebNq3j3Eck8opUzIvvAyQo4ux3B9ydy4Pa7VzeJF0r_4iovi7b3ivh2bWpanoUSwdBPWHUCdu45P2bI/s400/Clottesloe+3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For lounge wear, the fit is fine, but I wouldn't feel secure swimming in these. When I make these again as bathers I would reduce the length of the under bust elastic (in fact, I'd use the top from view D) and I would either size down in the bottoms or tighten the elastic for a more secure fit. But that's the great thing about sewing, you get to customise your projects so the fit is exactly how you like it.<br />
<br />

I haven't strayed too far though, these are the <a href="https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/collections/morgan-jeans" target="_blank">Closet Case Patterns Morgan Jeans</a>. After wearing skinny jeans for so long seeing the more relaxed fit on my body feels a bit strange, but oh they're so comfy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
I made up size 16, added an extra inch to the length (not that I needed to, I ended up removing it) and used a zip fly instead of the button fly as drafted.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I don't know whether it's because I've made so many pairs of Ginger Jeans, but these came together really quickly. There's a few drag lines so I could probably make a few tweaks to any future versions but they're super wearable so I'm not too worried.<br />
<br />

<br />
I used a non-stretch denim from Pitt Trading and the top stitching thread left over from a previous jeans project so, with the exception of the zip, these were made entirely from stash items. I love it when that happens!<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm experimenting with ways to take my own photos so that I don't have to rely on the family. These were taken using the self timer function with the camera balanced on a kitchen stool propped up with a tube of hand cream. Not ideal, but it got the job done. Progress over perfection right?!<br />

I really love the beautifully curated selection of fabrics that Maaike stocks and have purchased from her many times. I was beyond thrilled when Maaike chose me to be a contributor (also - go check out the other posts, they're a talented group of ladies).
Head over to <a href="https://www.maaidesign.com.au/blogs/news/simplicity-1059-tencel-twill-dress">MaaiDesign blog</a> to get the low down on Simplicity 1059 and my thoughts on working with tencel.

That was me with the <a href="https://shop.emeralderin.com/products/jordy-bralette-pdf-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Jordy Bralette</a>. Since finishing this in October last year I think I've worn it at least once a week and it was my favourite thing to wear during the really hot muggy spell that Melbourne had over summer.<br />

I made a size 34E using a scuba and foam kit from <a href="https://tailor-made-shop.myshopify.com/" target="_blank">Tailor Made Shop</a>. To choose your cup size the instructions tell you to subtract your under bust from your full bust measurement and round to the nearest number. It doesn't say whether you should round up or down and with a difference of 5.5 inches I was right in the middle of two sizes. I decided to round up and the fit is great.</div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div>
Emerald Erin has done a great job with the instructions, this was a really quick and satisfying project and I plan on making a few more in the future.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I can highly recommend the kits from Tailor Made Shop. The cuts were generous, with enough scuba and foam to make two bralettes and the findings and elastics are a really nice quality. This little bralette feels very luxe. </div>

What I'm not excited about is the daily struggle of trying to find something to wear. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For months I've been trying to stretch a handful of separates (both me made and RTW) and it's been really frustrating. I have enough to be appropriately clothed. I don't have enough to only wear things I feel good in or to change my mind if I don't feel like wearing a particular item. It's a total first world problem but it's not a great way to start the day. Clearly my sewing time has been devoted to casual sewing for too long. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBjHrufqFKDvM4SwjyeaQhl_9WCCVwDEK9rZ4n8QtyW0V9z33jJKLSUp8C3anmBdIoorb08i_f_Mvs-KCwFE6_E3KH8rOK8juBnM38dGTND9mh6ZHO5uFsvR8vwkswQd5L0S2r7VGRANI/s1600/work+plans.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="971" data-original-width="1600" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBjHrufqFKDvM4SwjyeaQhl_9WCCVwDEK9rZ4n8QtyW0V9z33jJKLSUp8C3anmBdIoorb08i_f_Mvs-KCwFE6_E3KH8rOK8juBnM38dGTND9mh6ZHO5uFsvR8vwkswQd5L0S2r7VGRANI/s640/work+plans.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So my focus for January is sewing more work wear. I pulled these patterns and I've already made a start, I've cut three silk camis, a white linen Inari tee and a pair of Ginger jeans in black drill (these are a total wardrobe workhorse for me). I need to muslin the McCall's dress and hope to make a start on it soon. The best part is that all the fabric and patterns are already in my stash!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm not locking myself into these patterns but I am focusing on pieces for work. Also, if you have any work wear blogs or Instagram accounts that you love please share - I'd love some more inspiration!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Do you struggle with what to wear to work? Do you make your work clothes? If you do, what are some of your favourite patterns?</div>

<br />
This space was totally neglected in 2018 but I still love blogs and think they bring something different so I'll do what I can to reinvigorate it in 2019.<br />
<br />
Like last year I've loved seeing all the #2019makenine lists popping up on Instagram, but this year I'm not going to participate. I want to try something a little different - if I can make it work you'll see it here on Feb 1. I may not have a list of projects but I do have three simple goals:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7L-9sg-ag-4k1afqYwB1CP-mza3H-gYXFigJpXc_eo5UoMc4Szagssg78g-HWJrjm1zHHNzKCuGwbZgaWirdesVM985JdJwAtmExUhiB2bjWtoXF_QwwufyobOY2INAyR6Hy7pcGXTXs/s1600/2019+goals.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7L-9sg-ag-4k1afqYwB1CP-mza3H-gYXFigJpXc_eo5UoMc4Szagssg78g-HWJrjm1zHHNzKCuGwbZgaWirdesVM985JdJwAtmExUhiB2bjWtoXF_QwwufyobOY2INAyR6Hy7pcGXTXs/s640/2019+goals.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have a large sewing room with very generous storage space and my cupboards are overflowing with beautiful fabric. It's a great problem to have but I want to use the fabric while I still love it. Ditto for my pattern collection. <br />
<br />
I tend to have a very practical approach to sewing and generally focus on making items I need. This year I want to add a little bit more fun to my wardrobe and sew some frosting. Can't wait to make a start towards this goal!<br />
<br />
So how did I do with my #2018makenine list? Not very well. I made 2 of my 9 planned garments, the Lodo dress and Archer shirt. The Lodo dress ended up as a cropped top due to a sizing error but I do love it. Neither item got blogged, but there is a picture of my <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Brb6ujHnjVM/" target="_blank">lodo top on instagram</a>. I sewed my Archer in September and just had to add buttons. I finally sewed those on yesterday so hopefully I'll get that up here soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB6CjruqeirqQNGKZJjN5rwn1s04w1itwAJ3_hBz-5vLdSU1_E7ql3jndoA7vZgRxDr0dSaqa74Wc0KaNTp6AWN6OiArgTnaBnrSyn-WthbT3b3BmjN9b1-5qfG7zE1rfdgfhuD-nxCS0/s1600/2018+make+nine+results.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1072" data-original-width="1072" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB6CjruqeirqQNGKZJjN5rwn1s04w1itwAJ3_hBz-5vLdSU1_E7ql3jndoA7vZgRxDr0dSaqa74Wc0KaNTp6AWN6OiArgTnaBnrSyn-WthbT3b3BmjN9b1-5qfG7zE1rfdgfhuD-nxCS0/s640/2018+make+nine+results.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I actually still love all of the items I picked last year so maybe they'll get made up in 2019.<br />
<br />
I love being a very small part of this amazing community of makers and I'm excited to see what the new year will bring. Do you have any sewing/creating goals or resolutions for 2019?Robynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01545965949294513334noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842256111212276773.post-31269212197339528212018-09-17T22:54:00.000+10:002018-09-17T22:54:17.470+10:00Spring/Summer Inspiration<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The making has been slow the last couple of months but the change of season has me considering all the beautiful things I want to add to my wardrobe. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With a week at Sewjourn coming up fast, I wanted to put together a plan (of sorts) so that I could sew with a purpose. So here are my inspiration boards for spring/summer. The first board is more for the office and the second is more casual, but pieces will cross over from each because I like my clothes to work hard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf1nVf20NEJ7TVwwoioauw74y3pRg_4J_1qMBzFLUihpgy9nPxCwwmKlx1FcDEs9heqWzhfuCrUepnekxXqkEb5DQLe4rq1PckS9Xui0c61pYjzchwEIrWvpHhX8VGV6YMzYvokQXBqw0/s1600/Picture1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="902" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf1nVf20NEJ7TVwwoioauw74y3pRg_4J_1qMBzFLUihpgy9nPxCwwmKlx1FcDEs9heqWzhfuCrUepnekxXqkEb5DQLe4rq1PckS9Xui0c61pYjzchwEIrWvpHhX8VGV6YMzYvokQXBqw0/s640/Picture1.png" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">All photos via my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com.au/robyn_borley/pins/" target="_blank">pinterest</a> boards</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's ambitious, and I don't have exact pattern matches, but I think that might work better for me. There's no self-imposed pressure to sew all the things but there's enough structure that I don't waste time wondering what to sew next. I've already picked out several items that I want to make so watch this space. Actual completed projects coming soon!</div>

New Look 6459 pants.So according to Instagram I finished these pants on April 2, but I only just managed to convince one of my kids to take photos today (excuse all the wrinkles from sitting at work all day).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgohxsl3B1K27Jq92NYMAPu7gJeAmb3jdcmtetmabyTrnpwCbfxSBbXeWRJxOivp5LI_vP9tvGQfU3WrrjZ0HriCw8adjgmKBNoLL2D0MY7uiS65h21cXVdSdSUmbN_6FtkaIvbhuF5vj4/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgohxsl3B1K27Jq92NYMAPu7gJeAmb3jdcmtetmabyTrnpwCbfxSBbXeWRJxOivp5LI_vP9tvGQfU3WrrjZ0HriCw8adjgmKBNoLL2D0MY7uiS65h21cXVdSdSUmbN_6FtkaIvbhuF5vj4/s640/a.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
These pants are <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/new-look-pattern-6459-misses-tunic-or-top-and-cropped-pants/6459.html" target="_blank">New Look 6459</a> that everybody else made several years ago. I bought the pattern for the top, but ended up making the pants, and I see another version happening soon (with a couple of minor modifications).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeBM1_Mwof3yO2kQskgMSGzmOc4GzlYIo_Dt3p7G4bNlQiCUZ_s1YP20Lc8rWHfC01HAnNe0qahqNohbVszrcFEGV5gY_f89eJRM5hD6DCT6TkXUFPlKgi_EuiFUHli64aZIGcz0z1_Q4/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeBM1_Mwof3yO2kQskgMSGzmOc4GzlYIo_Dt3p7G4bNlQiCUZ_s1YP20Lc8rWHfC01HAnNe0qahqNohbVszrcFEGV5gY_f89eJRM5hD6DCT6TkXUFPlKgi_EuiFUHli64aZIGcz0z1_Q4/s640/c.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I have to say that I'm in love with this fabric - it's the <a href="https://thefabricstoreonline.com/collections/linen/products/heavyweight-linen-vintage-blush" target="_blank">heavyweight vintage blush linen</a> from The Fabric Store. I would make all the things in this if I could! In terms of adjustments I cut a size 18, omitted the front darts and used a slightly narrower seam allowance from the waist to the hip. I think the instructions have the invisible zipper on the side but I moved it to the back.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzk8M88-0TkZhkv-B47xo5yeXPzXYNjxdnNf5IzVT1FglMlU_xoeEBatItGdvnc29Lg4BAXMGBkBJ6QdbHIdre7iLuqvdWPXXxuolGEEZDxhlHMkl409Ia2aIuaIBRBB_EZ40lVWoJaqc/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzk8M88-0TkZhkv-B47xo5yeXPzXYNjxdnNf5IzVT1FglMlU_xoeEBatItGdvnc29Lg4BAXMGBkBJ6QdbHIdre7iLuqvdWPXXxuolGEEZDxhlHMkl409Ia2aIuaIBRBB_EZ40lVWoJaqc/s640/b.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Next time I make these I would interface the pocket openings to reduce the gaping, I'd add a little extra through the back crotch curve (it's just a touch uncomfortable when sitting if you know what I mean!) and I'd lengthen them by 1.5 inches. I'd probably also slim the legs a little bit. <br />
<br />
Not sure I've got the styling quite right, but I'm loving these pants and really enjoying how versatile they are.<br />

Hopefully I'll have at least one completed by the end of the week.<br />

May is always a busy month so my only planned item this month is the <a href="https://grainlinestudio.com/shop/women/cascade-duffle-coat-paper/" target="_blank">Grainline Studio Cascade Duffle</a>, one of my #2018makenine projects.<br />
<br />
I may also have placed an order at The Fabric Store. There's some beautiful silk, viscose, merino knit, merino sport fabric and a couple of sweatshirt fabrics coming my way. I've got plans for an Ogden cami with the silk, a couple of pairs of pants (<a href="https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-8389-misses-pants-with-length-and-width-variations-and-tie-belt/S8389.html" target="_blank">Simplicity 8389</a> for the viscose and some <a href="https://papercutpatterns.com/products/anima-pant" target="_blank">Animas</a>, a jumper/sweater, two work out tops and a merino knit top (thinking I'll use the <a href="https://megannielsen.com/products/rowan" target="_blank">Rowan top</a>) - and I probably won't make any of it in May!Robynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01545965949294513334noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842256111212276773.post-48920395334656133062018-04-21T18:01:00.000+10:002018-04-21T18:01:09.391+10:00A "Gem" of a topSo the title is a really bad pun, but the top is really good!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAit5mfye7O-94Qhahaiz2SzohSIpu50ZBNijo6nnxbMncw0QVPNHYCvaubpMuEWAxDa92WhJmDz7oo0WUjzZfHnYpThjk6mN0KQNjo29vPwjU6b5vfwXvgR4TxxvtShvi7aLO9a4dcK8/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAit5mfye7O-94Qhahaiz2SzohSIpu50ZBNijo6nnxbMncw0QVPNHYCvaubpMuEWAxDa92WhJmDz7oo0WUjzZfHnYpThjk6mN0KQNjo29vPwjU6b5vfwXvgR4TxxvtShvi7aLO9a4dcK8/s640/b.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the <a href="https://www.stylearc.com/shop/pdf-sewing-patterns/gem-knit-tee-pdf/" target="_blank">Style Arc Gem Knit Tee</a> to create this top with long, slightly flared sleeves.<br />
<br />
The pattern is a good one for a basic t-shirt and I used it late last year but didn't think it warranted blogging. This is still just a t-shirt but I thought it deserved it's own post. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHnaYkmsDO9aTaOit-S83cuWiDaUHkkRBIOV1rtOkDjU5FLHB33lYEjwboribAyp_NcWXPQWW2UugD110J2DOIMhhbIxhCHHUXJjuoG4Tg7DXX5D2WAzVEtKAA4enPjxr5MYajPVWJCAQ/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHnaYkmsDO9aTaOit-S83cuWiDaUHkkRBIOV1rtOkDjU5FLHB33lYEjwboribAyp_NcWXPQWW2UugD110J2DOIMhhbIxhCHHUXJjuoG4Tg7DXX5D2WAzVEtKAA4enPjxr5MYajPVWJCAQ/s640/a.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The idea for this has been rolling around in my head for a while. It was probably inspired by something I saw on Pinterest or another blog. It had to have long, slightly flared sleeves, be semi-fitted through the body with a scooped neckline. I also knew that I wanted to make it up in this light weight ponte that I bought at Spotlight a couple of years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ-NZlFXb36KTloysDKRNbJRSIHV3RbaJWFY8q4HhDkQrMV8LOEoeG1PkWF4Nl5Qp0-hhz-AVn5FyTmQpp59MN_qW4NURZYkPBg4CzmLLyXfhJFj3LIcTtQZys0ItVPf9VBZzgidt1gJc/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ-NZlFXb36KTloysDKRNbJRSIHV3RbaJWFY8q4HhDkQrMV8LOEoeG1PkWF4Nl5Qp0-hhz-AVn5FyTmQpp59MN_qW4NURZYkPBg4CzmLLyXfhJFj3LIcTtQZys0ItVPf9VBZzgidt1gJc/s640/c.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
To create the vision in my head I scooped 2 inches out of the front neckline, grading to 1/4 of an inch at the shoulders. I extended the sleeve to a create a finished length of 68cm and a circumference of 40cm (yes, I do switch between imperial and metric measures!) and I used a facing to finish the neckline which I think provides a really clean finish. I've kept the slightly high-low hemline as I like the touch of extra length in the back and the shape of the hemline.<br />
<br />
I'm loving this top and plan on making at least one more in a sold colour, not sure yet whether it will have the flared sleeve or not.<br />

I can't quite believe that it's already April.<br />
<br />
I was trying to prioritise my projects for the month and thought that it would be good to blog them, helps me with my accountability but also helps to keep me on track.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIyji0W_vmvYzz5WS8lSG3Bw_NoxRmP6cF8J3TjLH7dmt-iiI06xLEsnPkGPS__s6YD0XBAZZ92-hdWhYsnfPjlK2OYQouiOIaSqJi6SC_T8uyPazj5oUayUv5V0i8BidlhJnrau1RNAQ/s1600/April+3+pack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="739" data-original-width="1503" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIyji0W_vmvYzz5WS8lSG3Bw_NoxRmP6cF8J3TjLH7dmt-iiI06xLEsnPkGPS__s6YD0XBAZZ92-hdWhYsnfPjlK2OYQouiOIaSqJi6SC_T8uyPazj5oUayUv5V0i8BidlhJnrau1RNAQ/s640/April+3+pack.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Images via <a href="https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/" target="_blank">Closet Case Patterns</a> and <a href="https://grainlinestudio.com/" target="_blank">Grainline Studio</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I think three projects is realistic - none of these are particularly complex but will be great additions to the wardrobe especially as we head into Autumn.<br />
<br />
I've just realised that I'm almost exactly copying the photos above! I'm planning the <a href="https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/products/sasha-trousers-pattern" target="_blank">Closet Case Patterns Sasha trousers</a> in a caramel stretch wool from Tessuti, the <a href="https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/products/kalle-shirt-shirtdress-pattern" target="_blank">Closet Case Patterns Kalle</a> cropped shirt in a white stretch cotton shirting and the <a href="https://grainlinestudio.com/shop/women/archer-button-up-shirt-paper/" target="_blank">Grainline Archer</a> in a white viscose.<br />
<br />
So far I've managed to cut out the Kalle shirt but <a href="https://shop.emeralderin.com/products/jordy-bralette-pdf-sewing-pattern" target="_blank">Emerald Erin's Jordy Bralette</a> is calling my name so who knows - there could be a change in plan!Robynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01545965949294513334noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-842256111212276773.post-55272856944567546392018-01-08T21:43:00.001+11:002018-01-08T21:43:13.470+11:00#2018makenine and other goalsI like the concept of nominating 9 projects for the year so I've made a #2018makenine. I've already posted it on Instagram but I thought I'd recap here and capture a couple of other goals too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYm7Iq-tYFo8A53WEYuIHlIDGmHhTE2vpou4kCMypdIDkKHE-MFvoqS6DeS8jPinWHtu54qMtaqXT6aLRE9ySqEnpOy_jmxxTcMQtInuoRnJvz8IDq-IS5Vm03rmjlxVr6Bpd6FpAPVgE/s1600/2018makenine.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYm7Iq-tYFo8A53WEYuIHlIDGmHhTE2vpou4kCMypdIDkKHE-MFvoqS6DeS8jPinWHtu54qMtaqXT6aLRE9ySqEnpOy_jmxxTcMQtInuoRnJvz8IDq-IS5Vm03rmjlxVr6Bpd6FpAPVgE/s320/2018makenine.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Let's start with the other goals. Like so many others my stash is overflowing and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by it. As I was scrolling Instagram over Christmas I found <a href="https://www.instagram.com/offsquare/" target="_blank">Katrina's</a> stash diet and decided to join in. I have fabric piled high on an armchair in my sewing room and I won't be buying any other fabric until it's cleared (my cupboards are also overflowing but I'm trying to be realistic and set small, achievable goals).<br />
<br />
This year I'm also saving for a coverstitch machine. I've wanted one for a long time, Wade even told me to just go out and buy one, but I want to save for it and get the satisfaction of doing this on my own.<br />
<br />
Finally, here's 9 projects that I really want to make this year.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://shop.truebias.com/product/lodo-dress" target="_blank">True Bias Lodo dress</a> - I already have the pattern and the fabric.<br />

It's a bit of a challenge and I'm keen to get started. It will be interesting to see if the plan changes as the year progresses. Do you have sewing plans and goals for 2018?</div>

That's Cleo, so I'm glad that I'm finally able to get her on the blog. I made this back in September at Sewjourn so she's waited a while for her blog debut.<br />

I'd been wanting a dungaree/overall dress for ages, but wasn't sure if the style was for me. In the end I decided if I wanted one then I should just make one and enjoy wearing it. So I did and I do!<br />
<br />
This is the <a href="https://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/cleo" target="_blank">Tilly and the Buttons Cleo pinafore and dungaree dress</a>. It's possibly the easiest thing in the world to make. I purchased the pattern locally from <a href="https://www.maaidesign.com.au/" target="_blank">Maai Design</a> (no affiliation, just a happy customer) as she has great customer service and I like supporting Australian small businesses.<br />

This is a size 6 made up in the midi length from a lovely black linen from Spotlight. My only adjustments were to chop an inch or 2 off until I was happy with the length and to sew down the straps as I didn't need them to be adjustable.<br />
<br />
I only include the front patch pocket. I do wish that I'd added jeans style pockets on the front as I keep reaching to put my hands in them. They're not included in the pattern but it wouldn't be difficult to add them.<br />

I thought it would be good to check in and see what got made, what got worn and what didn't even make it to the cutting table.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzu2YAr0CL1CcN6BkGcWS7kDxKlFOYNqe72RpVI9hG2PRZriOHCski7J2zA79D6xRxfGdx2dTDmE0w7W6u-IEs9lwEhdR0HxUFOeUoAW3OlqDGJjYzs81_liAaY9y9oh250j92biA51oQ/s1600/makenineupdate.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1089" data-original-width="925" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzu2YAr0CL1CcN6BkGcWS7kDxKlFOYNqe72RpVI9hG2PRZriOHCski7J2zA79D6xRxfGdx2dTDmE0w7W6u-IEs9lwEhdR0HxUFOeUoAW3OlqDGJjYzs81_liAaY9y9oh250j92biA51oQ/s640/makenineupdate.png" width="542" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Closet Case Patterns Sophie swimsuit: This one didn't even make it to the cutting table. It's still something I'd like to make, so you may see it in 2018.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Baste and Gather Birkin Flares: These are a work in progress (WIP). In my mind I'll have them finished to wear on New Year's Eve, but that's tomorrow and I'm just not sure I'll get there. I'm determined that these will happen soon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Grainline Studio Cascade duffle: Another one that didn't even make it to the cutting table but I love this coat and so I've added it to my #2018makenine.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Tessuti Patterns Ruby top/dress: Made, but not blogged. I have posted it on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BbVkSA4jyEh/?taken-by=robynborley" target="_blank">insta</a> if you want to take a look. It's a winner and will be coming to the blog soon. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
StyleArc Blaire top/dress: Also made but not blogged. My fabric choice wasn't quite right, it's a little too short and my collar looks sloppy - very 'home made' but in a bad way. I'll blog it soon but think I'll just harvest the buttons and try again in a different fabric.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Silk fabric: Also a WIP, this is on its way to be a Ruby top. I told you the pattern was a winner!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Orange Lingerie Montgomery briefs: I've<a href="http://sewredrobyn.blogspot.com.au/2017/06/miss-montgomery.html#.WkcgQ1WWaM8" target="_blank"> made a selection</a> of these and really like the pattern. Fabric choice has a big impact on which pairs I reach for. The microfibre and lace ones get worn the most, the other two I just don't reach for unless everything else is in the wash.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Evie la Luve Bella panties: Totally addicted to <a href="http://sewredrobyn.blogspot.com.au/2017/05/lingerie-love-bella-knickers.html#.WkchDVWWaM8" target="_blank">making these</a>! I love them and they've become my undies of choice! This pattern is a total winner for me.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Evie la Luve Esme panties: These are one of my <a href="http://sewredrobyn.blogspot.com.au/2017/12/simplicity-8228-bralette-and-bonus.html#.WkchwlWWaM8" target="_blank">recent makes (scroll down)</a> and I'd like to make them again. Next time I'll go down a size and use fold over elastic to finish the legs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Not too bad - 5 made, 2 WIPs and 2 not started. I'll post my #2018makenine next week, but if you want an early look you can check it out <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BdPNzSTFyIN/?taken-by=robynborley" target="_blank">here</a>. How did you go with your plans/goals for 2017?</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizF2Jo4lqDUpdRpz1EgKB5MJhF_jRj39vCyuyn0RH-9px4tmA875Bx3FoJk1CJbZxhFI6Jkhdjc_rp4YfHXQaFk5_s9QG5wEtihNgb410tpKveyVPZAayx0aZ9u_xQTcFj9nf_dfFDLHY/s1600/a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizF2Jo4lqDUpdRpz1EgKB5MJhF_jRj39vCyuyn0RH-9px4tmA875Bx3FoJk1CJbZxhFI6Jkhdjc_rp4YfHXQaFk5_s9QG5wEtihNgb410tpKveyVPZAayx0aZ9u_xQTcFj9nf_dfFDLHY/s640/a.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to start with a relatively easy project and chose <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-8228-misses-soft-cup-bras-and-panties/S8228.html" target="_blank">Simplicity 8228</a>, partly because it was a soft cup bra so no fiddling with underwires and partly because I love just about everything about <a href="http://madalynne.com/" target="_blank">Madalynne's</a> aesthetic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY7-i21BvaDylI_Vill73LozMvl9QSOoyN3Fnl7XTB3XvB7_maPUpHISpbMyp7kXfo291N-x3DdawPKrkS2U0by7U6KjCzKoSJhzaYLN1cTwaE5Up_j19dpQythMTQ3YtoTwRbieEf75c/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY7-i21BvaDylI_Vill73LozMvl9QSOoyN3Fnl7XTB3XvB7_maPUpHISpbMyp7kXfo291N-x3DdawPKrkS2U0by7U6KjCzKoSJhzaYLN1cTwaE5Up_j19dpQythMTQ3YtoTwRbieEf75c/s640/b.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
This is view A with a 36 band and a DD cup and I used a lovely kit from <a href="https://tailor-made-shop.myshopify.com/" target="_blank">Tailor Made Shop</a> so I didn't need to worry about finding all the bits and pieces. My standard RTW size is a 34D but I went with the sizing indicated by the pattern. I also noted that on Maddie's website she mentions that some people find the halter straps too short so I added around 3 inches in length.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvQC3Eru0_trGql9ntowImcysiT6L7bINCuITeXl_d844-paWS1plBb-cfXwaMkzmI1-qAJ-jpRCf1EUJwRpDbEjYkWffq7CxLRUU1iFKTCbpU7LPLpoK4lBuva06hDuTaCqELcJYf4VA/s1600/d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvQC3Eru0_trGql9ntowImcysiT6L7bINCuITeXl_d844-paWS1plBb-cfXwaMkzmI1-qAJ-jpRCf1EUJwRpDbEjYkWffq7CxLRUU1iFKTCbpU7LPLpoK4lBuva06hDuTaCqELcJYf4VA/s640/d.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This was so much fun to make - it's by no means perfect but it was a great starter project. If you'd like to see a modeled shot take a look at this <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Bb6kwJsjsHs/?taken-by=robynborley" target="_blank">instagram post</a> (scroll to second photo). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mwobeW4RcbZmrm0YSQDMOYSIewacSmSjpEr5IJ8cfVGNr5IYsJr-EWJVCg9wxN1wJdBEKIPnXg7Vzuz-Cvlc8wzcjv5tUtc7O3NkBco5sNg8kqM0xtrgfEIj69aTmX5kzF15sUFud38/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mwobeW4RcbZmrm0YSQDMOYSIewacSmSjpEr5IJ8cfVGNr5IYsJr-EWJVCg9wxN1wJdBEKIPnXg7Vzuz-Cvlc8wzcjv5tUtc7O3NkBco5sNg8kqM0xtrgfEIj69aTmX5kzF15sUFud38/s640/c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
In the end I removed 2.5 inches of the extra length that I added to the straps, I also added elastic to the bottom of the band. This wasn't included in the instructions but I noted that <a href="http://tailormadeblog.com/madalynne-x-simplicity-8228-view-a-halter-bralette-in-peacb/" target="_blank">Ying had done that on her versions</a> and had included enough elastic in the kit. It certainly makes the bra feel more secure. Unfortunately, my cup runneth over! Despite making the DD, there's still not enough volume in the cups (conveniently, what you can't see in the insta photo is what doesn't fit in the cup!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhnlCFMvbiRbC_yG1N-Md-Bx-AnhY1V3TP7vjhp3_VWgKAmdGzvJrNtCFWYZDYN8ECYh7OtAlzbtLsrlvjasTNGBzZqU20jYPqWAkxQv_hz8qSI0YnQWCwRAFXPmVqed9YGPj8EDfqRbQ/s1600/e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhnlCFMvbiRbC_yG1N-Md-Bx-AnhY1V3TP7vjhp3_VWgKAmdGzvJrNtCFWYZDYN8ECYh7OtAlzbtLsrlvjasTNGBzZqU20jYPqWAkxQv_hz8qSI0YnQWCwRAFXPmVqed9YGPj8EDfqRbQ/s640/e.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I actually bought a couple of kits to make this so I'm hoping that at least one of my teens would like the racer back version because I'm keen to sew it up. <br />
<br />
Still on a lingerie bend I recently made these <a href="https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/264659671/digital-lingerie-sewing-pattern-esme?ref=shop_home_active_8" target="_blank">Evie la Luve Esme</a> knickers. They're a really quick sew and despite the front edges looking quite fluted in the photo below they sit flat when worn (there's no elastic on the leg edge, it's just overlocked and sewn down).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDrFOA7HEtS77L9IkvhjM0zNDw9WuJw64y4SVtdeE5fO9tMwVXCzhxGVtRz7fcaN96SXKYYhIsqZC9brN9LHQfBAkEtK8rIOAygjH1iAi6N8V2r1ZSnDwnqMYNZ9IcLIl2M9ORFUi_5kQ/s1600/b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1096" data-original-width="1600" height="438" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDrFOA7HEtS77L9IkvhjM0zNDw9WuJw64y4SVtdeE5fO9tMwVXCzhxGVtRz7fcaN96SXKYYhIsqZC9brN9LHQfBAkEtK8rIOAygjH1iAi6N8V2r1ZSnDwnqMYNZ9IcLIl2M9ORFUi_5kQ/s640/b.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The overlap detail is really pretty and it's a great pattern for showing off a gorgeous stretch lace. I don't think these will replace my beloved <a href="http://sewredrobyn.blogspot.com.au/2017/05/lingerie-love-bella-knickers.html#.WiY2PNR95kg" target="_blank">Bella's</a> but they're a nice option to have. I've got plans for a couple of other colour combos so there's likely to be more of these in the future. Now I really need to go finish my work pants so that I have something to wear over these!<br />
<br />
